Just over 5 years ago, Ken a 46 year old software engineer was looking for a good martial arts school for his son.
"I had been told that Grandmaster Lee had a very good reputation. If you search for his name on the internet, you would be amazed at how many hits you get all around the world. There are clubs, reference books and a great number of people that he has helped."
As Ken's son become active in the practice of Tae Kwon Do, Ken too became interested but did not feel he was capable given surgery that had left him without the muscle required to lift his arm.
"I didn't think I could do it given my physical limits, however, Grandmaster Lee encouraged me by introducing me to other students who were even more severely affected than I was.
Tae Lee's Taekwondo program has allowed me to get back to, and most importantly, stay in shape. It's a great workout, it's given me confidence, encouraged me to take on more challenging things."
Ken has discovered that TaeKwonDo has significant benefits for the pursuit of other sports, such as hockey.
"Before a game, I practiced my patterns, this helps to improve my concentration - it helps me focus and stay sharp throughout the match. The intellectual challenge and peace of mind that TaeKwonDo gives me helps me control emotions which benefits not just sports but my work and health as well."
On a personal level, Ken has discovered that he has gained more foresight as well as insight.
With improved concentration, I have greater ability to see how things fit together. It's everything from spatial and temporal co-relationships, to more effective organizational time-management. I'm more observant and better able to foresee what's likely to come up instead of being taken by surprise. I also have a better sense of community, a spirit of volunteering, all this because of Grandmaster Lee's teaching which have helped develop my ability to observe what's taking place around me.
Grandmaster Lee's verbal lessons are just as important as important as the physical instruction. If you take time to incorporate these teachings into your life the program is more complete and you will be able to connect the physical with the mental and the spiritual."
